The Federated Republican Women of Clay (FRWC) is the largest Republican political club in Clay County. We are chartered through the Florida Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women. We are dedicated to educating the public on Republican principles, ideals and values. We participate in civic functions, festivals and fairs to register voters, and advance the Republican agenda. You will find us at the Clay County Agricultural Fair, Memorial Day events, Fourth of July celebrations, and the Clay County Literacy Coalition’s annual fair at the Orange Park Mall.
We meet most months on the 4th Wednesday at 11:30 a. m. for lunch at the Howard Johnson’s on US 17 and I-295 in Orange Park. Guest speakers keep our members and guests up to date on local and state issues. In election years the focus shifts to the races. In 2011, redistricting will occur in many states. Our mission is to reach out to the pubic through political education and activities. We will work to promote public awareness of issues that shape our county.
We believe the best way to help someone is to give them a hand up, not a hand out. This year our Caring for America committee will research ways in which we can offer our support and involvement to community and national organizations. Durng our first meeting our speaker, Nancy Keating from Challenge Enterprise told us of the wonderful success stories that enabled employment for individuals with disabilities. She also told us about volunteer opportunities within Lighthouse Learning and Challenge Enterprise offices. We had 5 members from our club offer to fill volunteer slots. Each year we send out scholarship applications to the county public high schools. The Scholarship Committee chooses from the applications and essays submitted to find an outstanding female graduating senior for the award. Year after year we are amazed and gratified at the caliber of character and accomplishment demonstrated by these young women.
We will endeavor to offer lively, educational topics and from speakers with significant involvement in the political process as well as in the community. We have invited the former Secretary of State, Sandra Mortham to be our speaker in May. I hope to schedule "road trips" for fun - like a wine tasting at Make n Take wines and for education to the Supervisor of Elections for a "behind-the-scenes" informational tour.
Come join a great group of women who want to promote the Republican ideals and principles and have fun doing it.
